Artichokes are a veg we've been enjoying here
for some time now. They are finally coming to an end though...
and returning to the earth to nourish the soil.

A jumbo arti that was mmm mmmm good for dinner.
Lovely artichoke left to it's own devices on the stalk...
If an artichoke is not picked, it goes to flower with thissoft, delicate lavender center. And if it is left to wither even further,
it dries up and turns brown.

Even the leaves of the artichoke on the left arebeginning to brown and crumple up.
This poor artichoke has been in the bright, bright southern sun forweeks now and has completely singed- inside and out.
What's left is the perfectly dried and beautifully fragile skeleton
of what was once a tasty side dish on a warm summer's night.
Decomposition here we go.
lotta colors and textures goin' on here....bue-TEE-ful...
ReplyDeleteI love all the texture of this shot - great color. Great life.

The artichoke must be in the thistle family as its flowering characteristics look very similar. We grew these this year at Lincoln Park Zoo but I haven't tried any so don't know how they taste.
ReplyDeleteVery nice photographic progression of the artichoke, from fruiting to flowering to browning.
